ACC H.A.M.S. Meeting Minutes for 2/28/2005

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm by the president, Tiffany. Everyone who was present submitted an update form with their names, along with other info. We will be asking new members to fill these out too.
Old Business: We briefly discussed last semester’s events. We explained what we are to a new member. Tiffany asked if the were any new t-shirt orders for new members.
New Business: We decided to keep the spring 2005 meeting time at 5 p.m., and the dates to every second and fourth Thursdays of the month in A134. If anyone is interested in the MD Anderson Cancer Center tour, they should contact Gwendolyn. Tiffany is going to send an email out to all members asking them to reply back with an available time and date they are able to attend if interested. We all decided that a Friday would be the best. Tiffany introduced malaria day. She described what it is and what she thought we could do to help raise awareness. She is going to contact the student activities to see if we could possibly do something together. We came up with some ideas on how to raise awareness around the campus. One idea was to play a video all day in the Texas room. April 25th is Malaria day in Africa. We decided to wait on raising money for the Tsunami victims until later when their funds are running low. Tiffany asked all members to look out for opportunities in our community to volunteer. The local Head Start Day care gets $175 when a volunteer comes and reads to the children for thirty minutes. Their number is (281) 331-7970. They do have to do a brief check on you. The Alvin WIC also needs volunteers to help with various projects. A member is supposed to be going to see what exactly it is they need help with. The Big Event is March third 8-12p.m. all members are encouraged to stop by for free food and info. Tiffany talked about Muscular Dystrophy and asked us to collect money for the cause. We will be posting the paper hearts somewhere for others to view. Every member took five or more hearts. The hearts are due to Gwendolyn by next Thursday. All members were asked to think of ideas for tours, speakers, etc. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
