Star Date : 05/31/03 I was sincerely hoping that the cool front from Oklahoma would come in for the last weekend of Scarborough Fair in Waxahachie, TX. I had already procured tickets for both Kristin and myself from the VarTec Company Store a few days earlier and was ready to go. We arrived at the park around 10:30 am and decided to start counter clockwise to make the rounds. As usual, they had a few critters for the kids to ride. Of coarse they also had quite a few venders and I just had to buy a few rocks. But I did not have the cards read. If I just had a big shade tree for this hammock, I would be set for the rest of my life! Then all of the sudden this fight broke out. It was almost time for the bird show so we quickly exited the area. The bird show is always an interesting one. They showed how falcons were trained for hunting and they even had a paragon falcon. Owls and buzzards were also in the show. They even had a bald and an American eagle. After the show we headed back to the north side of the park to pick up where we left off. Unfortunately, we were stopped by a bunch of drunken Medieval singers. We pushed on and watched this poor couple almost get knifed to death. Oh boy, a tower to climb. I just had to do it. I admit, I finally made it all the way up on the third try. I blame my sandals and the heat burning my fingers. Later, it was really embarrassing to watch this little girl just scurry on up. Kristin wasn't around when I took this one. We then checked out the turtle races and then the Scarborough performers began their parade through the park. We grabbed some carnie food and headed for the shade to watch the jousting matches. The funniest part is when they bang each other on the helmets with their clubs. What is also funny is how the event announcers act like sports announcers on broadcast TV sporting events. Not quite Howard Cosell though. But it appeared the knights became friends again after the contest. After the jousting matches, we headed to see "The Rogues" !!! These guys can play a mean set of Scottish bagpipe music. One guy thought he was Elvis. I should have bought a CD of theirs to play when I am in the barrio or the hood to avoid the traffic jams on I-35 during rush hour. I could just see the home boys now as I drive through their hood cranking up some rockin Scottish jams. So I went to the Scarborough Fair web site and found the Rogues' web site and got me their latest CD. Hey guys, I added your site to my link page. 4:00 pm was rolling around and with the heat, we saw just about all we wanted. So Kristin and I said good bye to all, till next year! So until next time, take care and I'll see You, on the road!!! Francis
